attempting to track down information about my great grandfather & great grandmother, a William GOONAN &
Annie BURKE. These are the facts we presently have. My father William Francis GOONAN, born in Brooklyn,
NY in1909. His parents (my grandparents) were William Francis GOONAN born in NY possibly Brooklyn
in1882 and Anna Louise LUEBKEN born in NYC in 1885. On my grandfather's birth certificate it states that
his parents were, William GOONAN from Ireland (Clare?Galway?)and Annie BURKE also from Ireland. It
further states that he was their firstborn child. When my grandfather was about 3 years old he was placed in
St. Joseph's Home in Peekskill, NY by the Court of NY. Reason was destitution. On the admission papers an
Annie GOONAN'S name appears. He was discharged from the home in 1894. He was about 11 years old.
Family stories say that his parents while living in NY went on to have more children while he was in St.
Josephs. Also that he tried to rejoin his family but there were problems. Family stories also say that some of
our relatives names were CASEY'S & KENNEDY'S. On my grandfather's death certificate(Manhatten 1955) it
states that a Philip PARKER his cousin was the informant. Family stories say that Philip was a policeman.
